Walking from Your Holiday Home in Zeewolde
One of the pleasures of staying at De Buytenplaets or ’t Buytenhuys is that you can start exploring the countryside on foot. From the holiday park, walking routes take you directly into the Horsterwold, a vast forest and nature area on the doorstep of your holiday home.
The landscape around Zeewolde offers a surprising variety of forests, open spaces and water. Depending on the route you choose, you may encounter deer, Konik horses and a wide range of birds. Foxes and beavers also live in the area.
Whether you prefer a short walk through the forest, a longer route through the Stille Kern or a walk towards Zeewolde and the shores of the Wolderwijd, there are plenty of ways to explore the area on foot.
Start Your Walk Directly from the Holiday Park
There is no need to get in the car first. Simply leave the holiday park and start walking into the green surroundings of the Horsterwold.
This makes it easy to enjoy a spontaneous morning walk, spend a few hours exploring the forest or make walking part of a longer day outdoors.
Explore the Horsterwold and the Stille Kern
The Horsterwold is much more than a traditional forest. Its combination of woodland, open grassland and water makes it a varied area for walking and enjoying nature.
One of the most interesting places to explore is the Stille Kern, a peaceful nature area within the Horsterwold. Walking paths lead through the landscape, where you can enjoy the sense of space and the quiet surroundings.
Wildlife, Water and Wide-Open Nature
Around the water and open areas of the Stille Kern, there are opportunities to observe birds and other wildlife. A watchtower and bird hide offer places to stop, look across the landscape and see what appears.
Beavers live in the area, and spoonbills are among the many bird species that may be seen around the water. As with all wildlife, there are no guarantees — and that is part of the pleasure of exploring nature.
Take your time, enjoy the peace and keep your eyes open. You never know what you might see.
Walking Tip: The Barefoot Path
For a different kind of outdoor experience, you can also visit the Barefoot Path in the area. It is a fun addition to a day outdoors, particularly for families with children.
Walk to Zeewolde and the Randmeren
If you prefer a longer walk with a destination, Zeewolde is approximately 7 kilometres from the holiday park. A walk towards the village takes you from the green surroundings of the Horsterwold towards the water and the Randmeren. At a similar distance, you can reach the shores of the Wolderwijd, one of the lakes surrounding Flevoland.
Beaches and Shallow Water
The beaches along the Wolderwijd offer a pleasant destination on a warm day. Woldstrand is a clean beach, while the children’s beach is particularly suitable for families with young children because the water near the shore is shallow.
After walking through the forest and countryside, arriving at the water gives you a completely different view of the Zeewolde area.
Continue Your Day on the Water
Would you like to explore further? In the harbour of Zeewolde, you can rent a small motorboat and continue your day on the water.
Walking, forest, beaches and lakes are all part of the same surroundings — and staying at De Buytenplaets or ’t Buytenhuys gives you an excellent base from which to enjoy them.
